ROSES FOR GROWING IN CONTAINERS

Roses are by far the most versatile and varied plants that can grace our gardens. From huge climbers to petite miniatures, there is a rose for almost every situation. Roses blossom from March to December in Southern California and provide an endless array of colorful and fragrant blossoms  even in containers. Yes, even apartment or condo dwellers can grow roses. All you need is about 6 hours of sun and you can have a garden of roses in containers.

So whether you have a balcony, porch, patio, pool deck, spa or along a walkway, consider lighting it up with an array of colorful, ever-blooming and easy-to-grow roses all in attractive containers.

Five Suggestions for a Container Rose Garden

The Balcony
Planters 18 to 24 inches in diameter.
Pope John Paul, Hybrid Tea
This is a lovely white hybrid tea rose with an incredible fragrance. Plants grow 4 to 5 feet tall with large formal blossoms. Open the doors to your balcony and enjoy the fragrance throughout your home. Plant colorful annuals around the base for added enjoyment.

Patio Accent
Planters 12 to 18 inches in diameter
Ebb Tide,  Floribunda Rose
Yummy spicy fragrance along with deep plum colored blossoms will delight you all season. A very compact rose bush only growing up to 24 inches in height. Accent with white alyssum.

Around The Pool
Planters 12 to 18 inches in diameter
The Imposter,  Shrub Rose
This tough little cookie will amaze you its ability to withstand hot summers and keep on-a-bloomin'. Growing up to 12 inches tall with about a 16 inch spread, this rose is great in combination with other annuals and perennials. 

Fragrant Entrance
Planters 18 inches in diameter.
Julia Child, Floribunda Rose,  Grows 3 feet x 3 feet.
This rose produces an abundance of butter yellow, old-fashioned blossoms with a sweet licorice fragrance. Very clean and maintenance free. Accent with blue lobelia, ageratum and white alyssum.

A Colorful Screen
Planters 18 to 24 inch in diameter.
Hot Cocoa, Floribunda Rose, Grows approximately 4 feet tall.
Produces masses of lovely burnt-sienna blossoms  the rose bushes are covered with glossy and disease-free foliage. Spicy fragrance is an added benefit. As a complement, plant blue lobelia and white alyssum around the edge of the container to soften edges and spill over the side.
